About Paul Jacob Bashour Abstract Artist | Los Angeles, CA

Born in the American Midwest and raised in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, Paul Jacob grew up inside a family where art was not something you made time for. It was the air.

While living in New York City, through years of self-taught renovation work, he developed an intimate relationship with surface, texture, and the physical weight of materials. That relationship became the foundation of everything he paints. His work did not emerge from art theory. It emerged from his hands.

Working in large-scale abstract painting and photography, Paul Jacob employs the materials of construction to build works that live at the intersection of architecture and painting, permanence and decay. His paintings are known for their layered, impasto surfaces and elemental presence. They feel less hung on a wall than embedded in one.

His work has been exhibited at Soho House West Hollywood, Studio 525 in New York City, in a solo exhibition in Paris, Florence Osteria and Ricca Design in Beverly Hills, and is held in private collections across Paris, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago, and Northern California.

Paul Jacob lives and works in Los Angeles.
