The Art of the Unexpected
About Paul Jacob Bashour
Abstract Artist | Los Angeles, CA
Born in the American Midwest and raised in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, Paul Jacob grew up surrounded by a family of artists, where creativity was not a pursuit but a way of life. Later while living in New York City, through self taught renovations, he developed an intimate relationship with surface, texture and the physical weight of materials that would become the foundation of his painting. His work did not emerge from art theory. It emerged from his hands.
Working in large scale abstract painting and photography, Paul Jacob employs the materials of construction to build works that exist at the intersection of architecture and painting, permanence and decay. His paintings are known for their layered surfaces and elemental presence, works that feel less hung on a wall than grown from one.
His work has been exhibited at Soho House West Hollywood, Studio 525 in New York City, in a solo exhibition in Paris, Florence Osteria and Ricca Design in Beverly Hills, and is held in private collections across Paris, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago and Northern California.
Paul Jacob lives and works in Los Angeles.
